Nevada County, CA — What a long, strange trip it’s been. The Nevada County Scooper has not yet taken a position on anything political in Nevada County regarding the coming ballot, but we sure love to talk about it in our Penn Valley offices. Below are some of the items mentioned around the water coolers.
Some things to consider:
- Sheriff Royal claims that 75% of all grows in Nevada County are illegal. When California votes to make marijuana legal in 2016, that number will basically flip.
- In the video below, Sheriff Royal states that “If we see more marijuana, we’ll see more crime…Do I fear this–YES.” As long as marijuana is not treated like other controlled drugs in our society, such as pharmaceuticals and alcohol, there will be crime associated with marijuana.
Sheriff Royal claims that 60% of all homicides in Nevada County last year were associated with marijuana crimes. This will continue as long as marijuana is illegal.
- Because of Nevada County Ordinance 2349, according to Sheriff Royal, his staff now only has to devote 1%of it’s time in the field toward enforcement, compared to a “much larger amount of time” before the ordinance was passed. Can we see the data?
- Yes, the stink is definitely a problem. If hops or grape vines stank, would Ordinance 2349 be the answer?
